“Sure, it sucked to be lost, but I’d long ago realized I preferred it to depending on anyone else to get me where I needed to go. That was the thing about being alone, in theory or in principle. Whatever happened- good, bad, or anywhere in between- it was always, if nothing else, all your own.”
― Sarah Dessen, Lock and Key
I have always pride myself on my steadfast independence. It saw me through many a hardship, including being a single mother. Without my stubborn tenacity for doing better regarding my daughter and myself, God only knows where we would have ended up.
I think it’s important for people to always have a contingency plan in place. Life isn’t always going to go your way (trust me I know)…there’s no excuse for a fully functioning adult to be independent and boy does this society value individuality.
There are simply some things in this life where we may find ourselves going at it alone, first car, buying a house, failed relationship and raising children. And yeah, it can get downright scary but what’s the alternative?
Life is about living, making the most of the talents God gave us.
One thing I cannot stand are chronic complainers who bemoan their lot in life and yet never do anything to lift themselves up and out of that situation. They are toxic, and frankly not worth my time. If someone finds themselves in a predicament then why not find a way out?
Life isn’t always easy, we’ll get some curve balls thrown our way but man, when you feel the exhilaration of success, knowing you stood on your own two feet….that’s something worth living for.
